Learn How to Run for Office, Build Campaigns, and Network with Local Leaders

The Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber presents a unique opportunity for local, civic-minded individuals who are considering running for office. The program assists participants in determining whether to throw their hat in the ring or how to otherwise get engaged.

Participants meet local elected officials and community advocates to learn about the process of running for office. The program covers many of the major steps and focus on making the decision to run. Participants learn about the differences between various levels of government and elected positions, and become better equipped to serve as a candidate and elected or appointed official.

How much does Candidate Academy cost?
Applying to Candidate Academy is free and open to the public. 
  • Tuition is $100 for Chamber members.
  • Tuition is $200 per person for non-members.

What's the agenda for the one-day program?
The session will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The agenda is in development and subject to change. ​For reference, the 2024 Candidate Academy agenda was:

Who can apply to Candidate Academy?
 Candidate Academy is open to everyone. We have limited space of 20 spots for the 2025 calendar so we are encouraging people to apply quickly and early. Priority is given to serious potential candidates who are actively engaged in civic activities, but we have an open door that is inclusive of all potential participants. Applications are due on February 28, 2025. 
Who leads the one-day program?
The program on Saturday, March 8, 2025, is led by Chamber staff, and features panelists, elected officials, political campaign experts, and other subject-matter experts who lend their knowledge and time to support the next generation of elected officials.
